Integrating CASB and DLP - AuroraIT

Most security-conscious organizations have made significant investigations in their Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Solutions through the creation of policies and remediation workflows. DLP solutions are an excellent solution to protect data on-premise. However, this level of security cannot be extended to the cloud without integrating new solutions into your environment. A Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) can be used to enforce those security policies to the cloud. A CASB and DLP work well together to extend these DLP policies to the cloud. 

The Benefits of DLP

DLP Solutions work to monitor network traffic and look for violations of policy. The DLP will analyze violations in cloud traffic in the network, but the DLP cannot take any actions to automatically prevent the loss of data in the cloud. A web proxy can also be used to inspect and block sensitive content, but these solutions are limited in how they extend to the cloud. 

Integrating CASB & DLP 

If you don’t already have a DLP implemented, a CASB will usually offer a DLP as well, making it easy for you to apply DLP policies to the data in the cloud. If you already have DLP in your environment, a CASB can be integrated so that the policies that you have already invested in will be extended to the cloud. By integrating CASB and DLP, if any actions violate DLP policies, they will be reviewed on-premise and a CASB will take necessary actions to prevent loss of cloud data. This process gives your organization additional capabilities to prevent data loss. 

CASB was made for cloud security so using it to enforce DLP policies can be very effective. A CASB can be used to connect specific cloud services via API and will scan for data. The scan can then be used to pass a list of documents to a CASB’s on-premise connector. This process protects your environments from potential risks that could occur from new files that are uploaded to the cloud.
